SILVER! finally....an observation also

I followed a road lessthan 2 mile from my home today, never been down it (dirt road). At the end I found an old church, according to the marble cornerstone 1832). It was hidden from the main road by the trees. I spent about an hour there and found 10 pennies (one wheat) a key, an old lipstick tube, and a 1939 silver walking liberty half dollar. Here is the observation: I noticed that all new coins come up cruddy, but the silver half came out of the black dirt as pictured below. This is only the third silver coin found (no gold yet) but I seemed to recall that all my silver finds have come up shiny! Any truth to this on a national level?

Nice going on the silver half James. Found one
that someone made into a ring about a month ago
myself. Was digging out in a baseball outfield
a few weeks ago when out comes a dime at 8".
Made me stop because it was so shiney and clean.
Not like the cruddy modern coins. Thought it just
had to be silver and it was. Well, just barely.
It was a 1964 dime. Think you're right at least
where I hunt in Florida. Silver comes out pretty
clean. Good hunting to you........Gene

I've read that gold or silver may get corroded on salt water beaches if extremely old.
They recommend vinegar soaking to remove the gunk. Other than that I think you are right regarding silver "and gold" which comes out clean.
I did notice that the silver rings I have found may come out slightly dulled but require minimal cleaning to make like new.

WTG James! There should be older coins than that,
so return and work the area SLOWLY. LOL/HH.
