silver dollar numbers

Anybody know the answer or have the same issue???? When I test the safari on a silver dollar or even a half silver, the numbers come up as 32-34, basically in the penny range. Dimes come in at around 38, quarters 39 so you would think silver dollars would come in at 39-40, but 34????What's the story here. This is a problem because in parks with tons of pennies etc I cannot dig them all, so I HAVE to be selective and dig the 37-39 range with a nice tone...I could be missing a lot. HELP!

Glad you brought that up. I need to air test again half & silver dollars as I've not recovered either one since purchasing the safari last yr.I recall at that time, briefly air testing an 1879 Morgan that showed pointing to copper when viewing the graph id bar on the screen. I find that both silver and clad quarters always read 38 for me in any search mode and when pin pointed, the audio is a louder "growl" than with a higher pitch returned from pin pointed dimes. And they point to silver on the graph id bar. Nothing good found at 40, though forum member Croakersmoker says he's found some silver at 40.

You're right, the Silver Dollar ID's at #34. Strange. I've never found a Silver Dollar with my
Safari, but it's good to know it rings up at #34 although one would think it should be #38 or #39.

Yes, I cannot tell the difference between a clad or silver dimes or quarters. A clad quarter sounds exactly like a silver quarter to me...and certainlt pop tops sounds the same as well. But I hate to think of the possible halves and dollars I am not digging because I assume they are pennies! Out in a field, yes you should dig almost anything, but in a park..there are millions of pennies and it would be crazy to dig them all. Some parks I get the penny range literally every foot. Please post your numbers for silver dollars and halves and if you think they SOUND different from pennies. Any solutions? Even the pennies are coming up in the 38 range, but at least sometimes NOT ALWAYS they sound a little lower than dimes or quarters. But I have been fooled many times. Thanks for your input!

My clad half dollar and Susie B dollar were both the same as a quarter 38 but I have not found any silver dollars.... yet.

For me, a 90% silver 1/2 dollar comes in at 37 and a silver morgan dollar comes in at 34.....I detected a silver dollar last year and it registered 38 but I figured out why later on, it had a silver quarter next to it!! at the time I did not realise it. Clad quarters are always 39 unless they are on edge/at an angle then they can come in at 38.
I do quite a bit of beach detecting and I think pennies register high (38 range) maybe because of the salt or coating they sometimes have on the beach but not sure about that. I dig anything above 36 anyway on the beach and of course everything in the gold range!
