Silver Day

Ken (Australia)

New member
Hi all, just thought I would post a couple of pics from yesterdays visit to a country racecourse. The area is located on private property and horse races have been held here annually for almost 150 years. I just have to find the oldest area. Silver coins were Shillings, 1881 and 1942, Sixpences 1917, 1936, 1940 and 1950, Threepences 1910, 1915, 1920, 1921, 1934, 1936, 1939 and 3 x 1943. Also found 10 pennies and halfpennies and a few dollars in decimal currency. Took my lunch and stayed the whole day starting about 10am and finishing at 4pm. Had a great day. Thanks for looking......Ken.

Hello Ken, You had a great day I am guessing you only covered a small part of the area. I have detected around my local racecourse which hasn't had a meeting held at it since the late 60's but is used for training etc. It had been detected by others for many years but the blue beast found 110 coins (a lot of the smaller silvers) and I still expect to find more. Let me know when you hit the 100 coin mark at your race course.

Ken,

Love looking for and finding any such as the silver,copper.....gold of the pre decimals.

You got to detect a country race course?......MY DREAM to find one I can get into and do the same over here in the west.

You may want to, if you don't already, set the Quattro without any discimination at all.

Dig anything that sounds remotely good. You might end up finding a gold soveriegn or two or three or four..................just in case your not aware, some gold coins tend to sound off in the pulltab zone which you might might have discriminated out. This is the case with the Ex 1 and the Ex2. I do have a friend, "Pinpointa" RAY H who uses the Quatro exclusively and has let me try it out. From what I can gather there is detecting similarity between the two detectors.

Thanks for showing.

Looking forward to some more picture postings of your finds.

you've certainly hit the jackpot there! I love the old silvers, love the 1881 shilling, a very nice coin. You may even find a gold sovereign at the rate your going! Thanks for posting the pics. Enjoyed looking at them!

Nice job on the silver. Looks like a great spot. I would go all day if I kept finding silver. :bouncy: 1881 - Sweet.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. I always hunt in all metal with no discrimination. A mate of mine has a few coins and I took the Quattro around there this afternoon and the 1/2 sovereign came in at 19 and full sovereign at 31. You're right John, the coins came from an area about 30 meteres square. There's still a large area to do and I've arranged to go back one day next week.....HH.....Ken.
