Silver Crucifix!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
I went back to the park that I've had luck with recently and detected this nice small 925 crucifix. I don't know how I missed it before but sure enough, sweeping at different angles can reveal hidden items in the ground!
Beautiful cooler weather here in Southern California makes it perfect for detecting!

Nice Celtic Cross, You can google silver hallmarks and find out more about it.....all the history is in there.

Yes, your right! It is a Celtic cross. The window of time that the forum gives you to edit is so short and I didn't have the time to correct the title as you pointed out! Ah well, just happy I snagged it today!

Don't you just love CA? I here everyone talking about how they are done for the year. Heck with the rain it is just getting going for me here.

Nice find!

Nice score... im sure you know better than myself ,but crosses in general usually give a bit of a rough signal due to their shape... that little bit of roundness on that one should have helped give a decent signal.. congrats..

I've hunted my wife's closed down high school front yard now for about 2 years. Thought
I had all that was there. Went back when I got the CTX and found a bunch more but had
a habit of hunting it from North to South. One day I decided to take my Safari and when I
got there, I hunted it East to West and turned it almost wide open. You won't believe how
much I found and the vast majority was really old jewelry and collectable coins. Very few
new coins. I think I cleaned those out with the CTX and ATPro North to South. Now I need
to go back with the CTX maxed out. Changing directions will always produce more results.

Yes, I would agree about changing directions and covering all the ground where your detecting as best as you can. Sounds like it has worked for you and it definitely works for me!
I think a lot of us get discouraged when we make a random superficial sweep and not find anything good but if your fairly confident there might be things in the ground, if a guy methodically sweeps to cover in a deliberate pattern in different directions, you have a far better chance of finding more good (and sometimes more valuable) things wherever you are.

Yep, I love California but just wish we didn't have the high temps during the summer months! Today it's around 82F and we are almost 3/4 through November!! Still way cooler than this past Summertime!!

Yes BHP, it gave a weird signal and I believe your right about the configuration of crosses! I wish metal detector manufacturers would come out with a detector that would give consistent signals that register/signal by the content i.e. gold, silver, ferrous and combination ferrous material metals rather than by shape but that's a whole different issue for a different forum!

This cross is a very nice find to find. very beautiful and made of silver, not missing something, it's perfect. :clapping:
