Silver Coins

I have some silver coins that I found in an old camp site and was wondering how to clean them up so I can see the dates. They are a real dark brown now. I tryed to just wash them but it doesn't seem to help. They arn't real old but they are before 1964

Just so long as none of them are key-date coins which you should never clean, make a paste out of baking soda and water and rub it into the coin with your thumb ... it should clean them up considerably. Good luck !

N/T

If they're actually silver and discolored enough that you can't read the date(how do you know they're pre-64?) the odds are they've been in a fire(campfire?) in which case they would probably be judged as "environmentally damaged" and have no numismatic value anyway.
Take them to a coin store and if the owner concurs , take them home , get some Ajax and a toothbrush and go to town.
