Silver coin values

Neil

Well-known member
Does anyone have any links they can share on how to find silver coin values? Im more interested in the melt value, what the going rate is. Example would be what is the average price I should pay for say a Washington silver quarter verus a Barber quarter.
I am mainly interested in purchasing some silver dollars/halves/quarters/dimes. Not interested in any nickels with silver.
Also I have some silver jewelry finds, how do I value that out? Most is marked either .925 or sterling. I have a couple of scales one is for jewelry so I can weigh what I have but need the numbers to apply to it.
Been looking on ebay and some other forums and the buy prices are all over the place on coins. I saw silver rosies for $3.50 each, are they really going that high now?

Thank you,
Neil

Remember, precious metals market price is based on a troy ounce not an regular oz. The troy is a universal weight.

Silver is based on the .925 fine.
I'm not sure about Gold as far as caret?

As far as silver coins go there are several websites that will give you the value of the coin. Those values are what somebody would pay if they were brain dead. The real value of a particular silver coin can be found by looking on ebay. On ebay you see what people are willing to pay for any coin, and therefore that is it's real value. Search a coin and date on ebay, on the left side in the search options check completed auctions and you will see what the coins sold for. Bear in mind that prices paid on ebay are directly related to the coin condition and the number of that coin for sale. If there 100 listings for a certain coin, all in average condition, the prices will be lower.

You can also take them to a coin dealer. Find out what he says there worth and will pay for them, multiply his price by a minimum of 2 and you should be getting close to it's value. If the coin dealer is a crook multiply by 3 or more.

The bottom line is they are only worth what somebody will pay for them. Find a similar condition coin with the same date and check the completed listings on ebay. I have a Barber quarter that is suppose to be worth 80-120 dollars. On ebay they go for 5-15 dollars all day long. Bummer!

Thank you guys, some great links and info, just what I needed!
Just want to put some away. Gold is still kinda high I see, wonder if I should swap some of mine out for silver?

many factors determine the value of a coin but the melt value of any silver quarter will be the same but your average barber should be more than an average washington. a really great shape standing liberty should bring even more.

I use that site quite a bit, it also has gold coin values and foreign coin values as well if you haven't noticed.
