went out again tonight, saw my vietnam war buddy walking with his detector. ( im no vet). picked him up and took him over to an old school area thats probably been hit pretty hard. He was none too confident, he's a clad guy anyway. I worked it slowly with my 1350, digging anything iffy. He was giving up and walking over to a newer park nearby when I pull out a 1929 merc at about 5 inches. Theres lots of detectorists that only dig shallow targets and move too quickly. A site is never hunted out.

Arn't those Mercury Dimes beautiful? Nice going and stick with your technique. Seems to work good.

ive been using my pinpoint well on iffy targets. WHen i swing over it sometimes ill only catch it every third or fourth time. Then i pinpoint it, if its a loud compact signal ill dig. If its spread out or not as defined i wont. Rarely do i use the profiling feature.

Have you tried the "twitching" procedure? When you get an iffy target just twitch the coil back and forth over the target in short rapid strokes. If it's a good target this will generate a normal signal. The Minelab boys call it "wiggling".

Ya i do that wiggling thing, its kind of autimatic when your not getting a consistant signal. ive come to rely more on the pinpoint density. Its a good tip though. The few detectorists i know seem to only get the easy stuff, maybe i just don't know the professionals yet. I feel that i learned more from you and jon than i have from my connections from the club and others in my area. I seem to be outdoing alot of older time detecorists in my area even though ive only been doing it for 4 or 5 months. Check out Nasa worldwind. You can dowload it. Its a map of the world and you can zoom in on different spots. It'll give you the street map or change the settings and you can zoom in on your own house clear as day. ITs a great tool to pinpoint places to hunt.

Yeah google has the NASA maps. The twitching method works great on coins on edge or corroded coins that won't produce a decent signal. I stumbled upon that little trick 30 some years ago. Been doing this for 43 years so have picked up a trick or two on the way. Some I forget until someone asks a question regarding it then it tweaks my memory.
