Silver and snakes

I went down to the beach early this morning and did my public service of digging up every pull-tab, bottle-cap and bit of aluminum I could find, and while tidying the beach I managed to get a few dollars worth of local money plus a U.S. nickel and a nice little silver ring. All in all a fun day.

There was a moment of excitement just after digging the ring. I was working the edge of the surf when I felt something wash up against and around my ankle. Looking down I saw I was sporting a beautiful new ankle bracelet in the form of a yellow bellied sea snake

Glad you scooped it up and put it back. If it had been me, I would of had to scooped something else. I don,t mind snakes as long as they are far enough away, but it they get close, Look Out, something got-a give, me or him. Flintstone

Sure would've got my attention!

Scott,
Sounds like you are having a great time away from the frozen north!
Enjoy!

I'm envious as I've spent a lot of time down there. I've heard that the calmer the water the more sea snakes. And crocodiles around the mouth of some rivers. It was the terciopelo [fer de lance] I was watching for since they are the most aggressive. Would love to be there and see some old friends. Which side are you on Atlantic or Pacific? Thanks for the post and the memories. Pura vida y que le via bien.

James, I'm on the pacific side. Yep, crocs in the ricers, one was at the river mouth on the beach today. Small one though.

I got to be honest. I look down and find a Serpent around my ankle, one of us is going down. If I haven't expired by heart attack first. Nice hunting- you got much competition along there?

True, sea snakes are not aggressive. Except during mating season, and since I don't exactly keep track of when that is, I'd opt for panic attack mode, myself!
While at sea in the Indian Ocean, have have seen the surface boiling with snakes during mating season. About the best thing I can say for sea snakes is that their fangs are too short to penetrate most wet suits.

It also ocurred to me - good thing you weren't wading neck deep!

Nice finds too!
