Silver And Gold with the Makro

Went to my hunted out park for a quick hour hunt this morning.
I mean this park has been hit hard for the past 20 years, plus at least 2 people detecting every single day above freezing ,

This park is really Trashy and has a alot of Iron. I do ok in my other searches in the past at the same park, but today I decided to move the id filter up to 37,Two tone, gain 85,10.5 coil

Usually I run id filter 10,gain 85, D2/D3 Does alright in Trash but heavy Iron signals tend to mask good signals.

2nd plug I dug was 37' Silver dime at about 5 inches on it's side(previously hunted same area with id filter at 10

about 30 minutes later in the same area , I get a Solid 51 to 52 at about 3 inches down was a White Gold Man's wedding band.

Can anyone tell me why I'm finding better Targets with Iron notched out?

WOW thats good digs, I know what you say about the I.D filter i have a lot of cut nails and they make sounds like a good target- usually not if you turn 90 digress but i finally turned up the I D filter to 20 and no more falseing and pulled three non ferrous targets out . not as good as you found but it helped

Thanks,Best day I have had with the Racer going to keep the id filter to a 20 and above at this park, and see what I can come up with!

Park has been pounded with Xp deus,Ctx 3030 on a weekly basis

I never like the ctx it does no better than a racer , plus costs 4 times as much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(((((((((((((((((((((((((((boom))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Decision: To hunt a site that you know has potential, but you also know has a lot of trash, with a lot of iron, By your comment, you have hunted it before, you did 'OK' in the past, but you wanted to take a different approach and reject most of the iron with an ID Filter setting of '37.

Results: 2nd plug was a silver dime and half-an-hour later you found a men's gold ring.

Answer: You made a conscious decision to select a potentially good site that has targets often missed, quote possibly do to masking effects by the abundant ferrous and non-ferrous trash you knew was there. And, this time, you made a decision to reject more iron trash.

Consequently, [1] you had a positive attitude the site had potential, [2] a positive attitude to ignore (Discriminate) most of the ferrous trash so as not to hear it. Doing so [3] you knew would ease the annoyance of listening to all the iron, and this way [4] you figured you could concentrate more on potentially good signals and not be distracted, or annoyed, by all the iron litter.

Oh, and there is one more thing to consider about this particular search, and that is [5] you happened to sweep the coil over a good target and had a worthy response that you made a recovery. How many times have you, anyone else, and especially the 2 people you say work the same park every good-weather day, swept over those two targets and ignored an 'iffy' response. More to the point, how many times have you and everyone else just not swept a search coil directly over those targets? Close maybe, but not directly over them.

Just a thought here, if iron trash was that bad, why not use an ID Filter setting of '40' to bump out most of the iron instead of only coming close? Personally, with the original Racer or FORS CoRe or Gold +, I generally search with minimal Discrimination and just audibly deal with the iron. Most iron I encounter is nails or similar reading iron, so if it gets too annoying, the use maybe an ID Filter setting of 20/21 to just barely reject most iron nails and never run it higher. I still use that ID Filter setting often in really nasty iron nail older sites with my Gold +.

Nothing wrong with the original Makro Racer or the Nokta FORS CoRe as they are units that work very well. However, since I hunt iron littered sites about 98% of the time or more, I really enjoy my Racer 2 and new Nokta Relic. Both of these models feature more modes and adjustments that their earlier counter-parts, and one of those is Iron Audio Volume. I rely on it with two setting choices based upon the sheer volume of iron nails at a site, and how tolerant I am of listening to all the iron target responses.

I keep my ID Filter/ID Mask at a lower setting so I can hear the iron and work around it to uncover those partially-masked keepers. I either set the Iron Audio Volume at a low setting of '02' or '03' so that I just barley hear all of the iron present, but the Volume or loudness of all the iron is reduced so as not to be annoying. That lets me hear the more favorable targets hits that are louder and more telling.

When the nails and similar iron just get too distracting and bothersome, I reduce the Iron Audio Volume to '00' which is 'Off' and that way I don't HEAR the iron targets. However, it only cancels the audio response and doesn't effect the visual display response. So if I sweep over iron, the display will light-up and show the ferrous TID number, but that's all, no iron audio. If I sweep over or close to a good target and get a so-so response, I can move the coil around as I make sweeps over the target and note the visual display registering the iron-range ID of a nearby piece of junk, but I don't hear it.

So, if I drove through your area and spotted that location, I would:

• Hunt with ID Filter at '03' and Iron Audio Volume at '02', or ...

• Hunt the same way but turn Iron Audio Volume setting at '00' so that at 'Off' I wouldn't be as frustrated with all the targets present.
