Silver and Gold at the River

fongu

Well-known member
I finally made it to the river Saturday and couldn't detect about 4 hours and found so much trash I almost missed a 14K gold find. I worked around the dock where I found my 14K chain a few months ago and found a sterling silver chain that weighed 10.71 grams. It was all over the scale and I thought I had found another chain but it was a small bungee cord.
The 14K heart shaped pendant weighed 1.07 grams. 42 on the DVI. Found 2 q, 1 d and 4 pennies plus a token. Adventure zone on one side and TLC amusement on the other side. Found what I think is a junk ear ring and a butterfly ring, but haven't had time to clean them up and check them yet. Lots of trash in the water. I kept getting so many targets in the 39 to 48 range and found 5-6 pieces of foil that sounded like a good target, I almost didn't dig the gold pendant. Glad I did.

Had to come here and comment too! Outstanding! You were due for some great finds! That gold is a tough target, being filigree and small like that...great testimony for your ability with that Pro!

Great hunt, Fongu! That gold pendant is a beauty! :clapping:

WTG at least all the the hard work paid off, good luck there is probably more there . HH

This section of the river has been very good to me and I've been good to the swimmers who use this area by removing several 5 gallon buckets of trash and broken glass. Mud, I almost didn't dig this target, but my gut said dig and I'm happy I listened. It didn't have much of a tone, but it was a steady 42 and wasn't all over the place. I might have missed the pendant if it was surrounded by multiple trash targets. I searched in vain for the chain to this pendant, but couldn't find it. It really did my head some good getting out and finding a good target was just another blessing on a great day. HH.

I was gonna ask you about the chain...I bet its within a 5' radius of that medallion...it may not be big enough to hear at all, and if you do, its gonna be a tiny little probably iron/foil "pip" from the clasp...you might just try dragging your scoop through there random, or getting every target in that area and it might come up with something else...looking at your junk shot, you are definitely digging all the right targets for gold...that many older tabs in there, it has not been hunted by anyone else too hard...gotta be more!

There are several other detector users who hunt this area, Mud but I don't think they have a water machine. I hope to spend Christmas day even tho it's colder than last Saturday working over both docks in this area. If not, later this week. Thank goodness I got the leak stopped in my waders. It's supposed to be 27-28 degrees tonight and the high tomorrow is supposed to be 54. We've had a high wind all day today and probably the rest of the week.

AU IS ALWAYS a Welcome sight!!!

Way to go Fongu! That pendant find was the result of hard work for sure. Many of us tire of digging pieces of foil that come in at 42 and would have missed it. Great job and thanks for keeping us frozen-in dirt fishers occupied with find stories until spring.
HH, mac
