Silver, and an 1837 "Hard Times" token!

Wasn't having much luck today, so decided to leave after my friend Lou stopped by to see how I was doing. Started walking towards my Jeep which was about 300 yards away, so, like always, I drag my coil to see if I can catch any high tones. I used to find lucky silver like this when I had the ETRAC.

Just before hitting a concrete path I get a high tone. Stop, dig it, and find a Memorial penny. ugh. Not what I was looking for. So, do a quick back-n-forth sweep, and hit another high tone. Dig it, and find the worn 195? Rosie dime. OK, awesome! Silver streak continues at 3 hunts. Couldn't be happier. Then, stand up, and since I have the silver bug, start searching in and around the trees where this Rosie was. I get a faint high tone, but the TID is all over the place. Still, a constant, although iffy and weak signal, yet repeatable deep target. Why not? So I start digging. Hit a small root. Pin Pointer doesn't hear a thing yet. Try to dig around the root, but it's really in the way. Dig some more dirt out and from around the root, and finally get a faint beep. Dig some more dirt, and the beep is getting closer together. Now I have to cut the root, and I hate cutting roots. Once out of the way I take a deep chunk of dirt out. I'm at about 7 inches now. The Pin Pointer is starting to scream solid. Dig the last inch of dirt and feel the Lesche hit the object. F@#! I just scratched whatever it is. Then, in the dirt, I see what I think is a Large Cent or Colonial Copper! I'm like "HELL YEAHS!" (Didn't actually say that). Then I look at it, and it's got great details, but nothing like I've ever seen. Pour some water on it, and still can't clean it all the way to recognize it. Maybe should've called ATPROGUY to bring some of his magic water? lol Anyway, I start to see lettering, and use Google to find out what I have dug, and to my surprise I found an 1837 "Hard Times" token! The history around this coin is awesome. Minted during 1837 and the "Hard Times" because of the impending depression and banks failing, this little token was considered unofficial currency of the day. Cool huh? Definitely made my day.

Yes, I found the same one in Cape Cod a couple years back....cool token the lock box on the turtle's back represents the US Treasury. I believe the other side has a derogatory comment about Andrew Jackson and the man who became president just after him. Clean in boiling hydrogen peroxide and show it.... It's worth about $60 in fine condition from what I recall.

I found the same one about 20 years ago here in NY. Pretty cool find

Nice job Ron. A truely unique find. Were you using your Modified high trash combined program?

Yes. I pretty much just use that mode all the time there. Heading up there in a little to re-scan that area.
