Silver Alloys

Does anyone know when (what years)they changed the silver alloys in the US coins. If so, are the alloys close enough to give the same basic readings?
thanks...........Larry

US silver coins prior to 1838 were .8924 silver, rest copper. After that until 1964 .9 silver, .1 copper. In 1853, and 1873 the total weight of the coins were changed slightly.
The change is small enough that there will be no difference in the readings of most detectors; probably none. Some people say they can hear a difference between a very worn coin and one that is almost new, not sure meself.

I got a 4 or 5 inch slick Barber dime that came in between zinc penny and dime. Was real surprised to see silver.
