Silly PI Question

Hotwire

New member
I only want to hunt jewelry in salt water sand, (edge of the beach) . I only want to dig a maximum of 6" or so deep. I don't require discrimination since i would dig everything. Would a PI machine be practical or should i stay with a vlf machine with fair salt water capability?

I've got my SL ready for the beach trip this fall.
It's already proved itself in the coal waste yards. Many good targets have come up in the last month.
Hoping to acquire a mono loop for the trip though. I keep hearing they are quite a bit better than the stock coils that come on the machines.

Why just dig the top 6'' ?? as others have mentioned all the decent finds will be down deeper and having the right tools for the job will certainly increase the reward to effort ration for sure,i use a original Crossbow PI built by George Overton and also a decent stainless scoop and i see these as my tools of the trade when beach detecting.

By all means you can dig just the top 6'' but folks who come along later and will find all the decent 'bling' at greater depth.

Carl is right you wont to dig all deep targets.if you are on the west coast of US for sure
get a pi on east coast a good VLF will do what you wont.If you to wont go deep don't get
a White SL with a 12'' dual field coil,it wont detect a gold ring 10'' in wet salt sand, Some
people dig fox holes and say that it goes deeper not so.air test it only detects a US
nickel and a gold ring same size at 11'' not good.
