silicone

I read that you could silicone the coil cover to the coil any problems with that. I'm a beach hunter and get sand between the cover and coil all the time. Got lots of questions I'm a beginner. Sovereign GT thanks

I gooped all my coil covers to keep dirt and moisture out. GT cover was loose so the silicone also holds it on.
Seems to be no problem.

I dont think silicone is the way to go for an avid beach hunter, it would appear that an 1/8 inch coat of marine epxoy and no coil cover is the ticket here. I would go the the baech and water fourm and see what they are running. its something like this . http://www.findmall.com/read.php?26,388695,388700#msg-388700

I used to recommend silicone around the coil cover till one day my Excal acted funny. Seems at one spot the silicone let water and black sand inside the cover and as it moved around it effected the operation. It is best to just remove the covers once in awhile. Marine epoxy is a idea that adds weight to the coil. OK for diving.

If you are going to use silicone on the coil cover then make sure you do a good job or the sand will leak in and potentially cause falsing. I use GE marine/rv 100% silicone gasket to bond my cover to the coil and seal out sand at the edges, comes in black and virtually invisible when applied properly. A little goes a long way and you can always slide a razorblade down the edge of the cover to break the seal if necessary without messing up the coil or the cover.

being in the motor trade, i used windscreen adhesive on my sov and exal 1000 !! i first degreased the coil cover and coil with thinners, masked up the "clean areas " , then piped loads of gooooooo into the cover ,then with several g clamps used even pressure to squeeze out the excess gooooo, wiped down, demasked and left to cure over night .
it was a messy job but iv had no problems with falsing since !!!! regards tony weston
