Silever Umax problems

Wonder if any of you can help me. In reading about this MD and others they recommend that you put the cable over the pole not under. So I changed it to go over. Then the machine just made a constant single tone beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep. I changed it back and I was on my way. This morning I rewrapped the cable going the same way and it still does the single tone...anyone know why that is happening? Thanks for your help. Chris

That's exactly the way it acts when the coil is unplugged. Either a coil wire has loosened or the connection is not good.

Yes the machine is telling you that there the coil is not connected when you hear the constant Beeeeeeeeep. Slinshot gave you the two possibilities of the source of the problem.

Yup this is what I noticed.....when I go to the plug in from one direction from the top of the pole it beeeeeeeeeps...when I go from the other side it's fine. I'm ok right now but do you suppose it's the cable or where it attaches?? Thanks folks

Chris

Sounds like a cable wire and when you bend it a certain way, it pushes back together and works fine-the other way the wire slightly separates and creates an open.

I've not dealt with Tesoro yet...do you suppose they'll make me send the whole unit in or do you suppose they'd send me a cable?? If it works like this I might just wait till next winter. Thank you for you quick reply.

Chris

I would say send the whole detector in and they will address your problem. As far as timing that is up to you, but you could buy another coil for your silver uMax to get you through the to the end of the season. If you can stableize the wire you might make it throught to winter.
You can call Tesoro to get an idea about how long the fix + shipping time will take.
All the best

hmmm so a new cable comes with the coil?? I'm new to this game and apologize in advance for my ignorance. Thanks

Chris

the cable on the coil must be fixed by the shop,, great time to buy a different size coil and have fun while our is getting fixed,,, but then again you may want to send the whole thing in and have the unit tuned to the new coil if they choose to give you a new one in liew of a repair.,,,,,, call the shop at Tesoro and see what they say,, good luck and say hello to Rusty for me (Great guy that runs the shop a Tesoro)

I'll do that......thanks for the reply........any suggestions on a coil??? I do mostly coin and relic hunting in fairly low trash areas??

Chris

loaded question,,, I love the 5.75 in the trash,,, 3x18 in the ball fields and anywhere else that dept is not top priority ( although I am happy how deep it goes for what I am hunting) and the 10x12 for the deep searches,,, read up on the others like the 11 inch widescan (double "D"),,,,HH
