This is a method of hunting that I enjoy in heavy trash. I use my previous posted setting and add to that any items that are really bad in an area. I set the threshold to the point where I can just hear it then drop the threshold (1) click below that point. The display still shows a threshold but none is heard. My assumption is there is a threshold but I cannot hear even thought as far as the electronics is concerned there is a set point. I then search in high trash (silent search) so do not hear any null but get very strong positive. So far I have not noticed any loss in depth. How deep 7 to 8" for new users and all the way up to 12" on a dime with experience as skills increase.
There are so many great ways to use the Explorer and setting that I often wonder why experienced users don

Yep Cody agree with you more than one way to skin a cat and Minelab gives you choices..Arguments of course against are..threshold tell you if your unit is stable..you get a good idea of the area realtive amount of junk and above all by the null can grab a nice find next to junk..We all know Jimmy Sierra and in a video for Whites he sort of stumbled relative to a depth increase so one wonders if there is. I happen to know a CZ is a great machine that rivals a Explorer depthwise and heck it has no threshold so one wonders. Now that I have confused some do some experimenting by yourself and your call relative your Explorer settings..

Once I get the lay of the land and am sure my unit is stable do at times use your method as that buzzing however slight is distracting at best..
