signs of the old

GRAY GHOST

New member
hello all, pictured are the various signs you might find while detecting. cast iron square nails, an old tortoise shell comb frame, piece of china, silverplated spoon, iron horse bits, shrapnel, divits, perfume bottle tops, pocketknives, old glass, fishing weights, an old bond flashlite end, watch frame, etc. when you find old stuff like this, then you know your're close. and the ever popular rolling stones pin! hh,

stones live!..everything is ALLRIGHT with the world!

cool finds

Great finds Ghost! I really like the US button? The script item is very sweet. Congrats on the hunt.

I saw the Stones in Philly over 20 years ago. Very good show, Beale.

Nice Finds!! Love to see them all together in a display. That's one thing I was supposed to do this winter was to display mine:rolleyes: Oh well, there is always next winter. The iron ring, top right (horse harness ring?) always ring out quarter for me.:rage: Great finds. Now, do you remember exactly where you found each one? HH

Great display GrayGhost, Ive only put one display together,so far.
It really helps to show the different eras that are present at a dig site.
Good Job :clapping:

Almost every day I MD I find a bunch of stuff like that. I don't know what to do with it all. I live in an apartment now and my wife is about to throw me out if I bring any more of that stuff in the apt. The trunk of my car is getting full. What do you do with it all.
I am MD'ing many houses that are being torn down for a hi-way. If I didn't MD it, it all would be under the road.
I have gotten a bunch of pocket watch parts, they are in the garbage. Ornate iron things, in the garbage. You know how ugly a rusty iron hook looks that pots hang on for a fire place? I find lots of coins, tokens and turn of the century jewelry. They are no problem. I hate to throw away all the big rusty iron stuff. It has it's place, but not in my apt.

If it's iron, try gently cleaning it with a rust remover and neutralize it, and get some stove coloring (stove black?) and darken it. This makes it look good and maybe on the nicer pieces, you can hang them. The other stuff, I would package in smaller boxes. They look better stored and may fit in a closet somewhere. If your wife sees the junk hanging out of open boxes, then it looks like junk!!! But if it's out of sight, then it's out of mind. Good luck, I feel for you. My wife has given up on asking me why I keep the junk. You just have to out last her:rofl: HH

Everytime I see that pic of you and the axe , I think of The Shinning : Here's Johnny
Good post TD
