Signal, where'd it go???

Just bought XS and reading manual, but have a question, have found several targets with good repeatable signals up in top right, but when I dig can't find them,
tried using pinpoint to no avail, signal is no longer there, tried digging further to no avail
anyone had this experience??

If the coin is at a 45 degree angle the single will bounce to the side and almost anywhere. After digging the hole recheck, pinpoint again and usually you can find it.

if its reading solid somethings was there, either deeper or up in your pile, sometimes the explorer doesnt see them well after there out of the ground or there was iron in the hole and you move it on top of the target.. thats why the X1 probe is so handy,

Next time you get one of these try getting the signal when comming from a differnt direction, if it is good then you should get it from more than one way. .

Once you move a coin you destroy the halo they have built up over the years and they can disapear. The probe will tell if it really was a good target. I have had the probe tell me many times that what sounded like a good target with the big coil really wasn't. It will save you time and anguish and save the area from BUH (big ugly holes)

Ernie,
When I use one of the bigger coils I too sometimes lose the signal. The X1 will help a whole bunch.
1. Find and pinpoint the target.
2. Take out the plug and search with probe.
4. If no signal, do 2 things----dig deeper and re-pinpoint with the big coil.
5. Probe for it at a deeper depth and u might hear a piece of the coin. This is your big clue that it's deeper. But be careful. Hurrying to make a great deeper than usual find will cause you to put a slash on the coin and ruin it. We have all done it. Fertz happens, and then u get mad at yourself for not going wider around the coin when going after the deepie. When u get the magic signal, just take your time about removing it. HH wmike

Thanks everyone , I'll give your suggestions a try, really don't want to add any more weight to detector , might consider buying one of those pocket probes, any experiance out there with those??

I tried a couple and seen they realy have no depth of detection, maybe a 1/2 inch to 1 inch max so you have to be almost touching the target.
If you have a Explorer or a Sovereign the X1 and S1 are the only way to go and they dont add any weight a person can notice.
After the couple I tried , I have my Sovereign hipmounted with the S1B probe if needed when I use any of the other detectors i have . I can get a good 3-4 inches of depth with it to make target easy to find and faster so you can find more.
I think if you ask anyone that has a X1 probe on their Explorer they will agree it is by far the best add on you can do to the Explorer.

Some say the detector needs part of the minerals in the dirt to find it, when some layers of dirt are gone

I think you just hit on the real problem cladmaster! These guys are finding the coins and leaving the halos! I keep just finding the halos! HH, Bobby

or, you could just get a periscope, and skip steps 2 through 5!
