how come ican get a signal then lose it or it s only there some times as i sweep back and forth . went hunting at my neibhers for a n hour today and fouund a real nice 1875 seated dime but the signal was not a strong solid one and it was seemly goshting a around.. there were more of these type signals but i could not lock on to them enough. aam i doing somthing wrong?

Don,
Could be a couple of things. Did you have the C$ set up with all the zones notched in? The reason I ask is that on coins next to trash the signal may get averaged down by the trash unless you hit it just right. If the zone its averaged down to is notched out it could account for what you experienced. Also I have seen the C$ lose a target at rare times when you tighten up the sweep over it. In cases like that I go back to a wider sweep again and it will re-acquire it. Doesn't happen all the time but that a possibility too.
Analyzing the detectors signal from a target is an art you have to develop for yourself. We can offer advice but there are so many variables that experience really is the best teacher.
