Siesta Key Hunt

Went on vacation with another couple and my wife to Siesta Key last week. I and another friend hunted the beach by the multi colored lifeguard stands in 84 deg. weather and 69 degree water. Total time on the beach for us combined was about 8+ hours in the water. In all we hit 2 pennies, one junker ring and a ton of bobby pins. I was up to my shoulders with the Sea Hunter and my friend was wet sand to waist deep. The beaches were packed with bathers - a lot of spring breakers but only a few in the water. I know it was early in the season and many guys troll up and down with excal's fishers and the lot. We had a good time but ofcourse a little disappointed with the absolute lack of finds there. I also hunted Venice Beach with no luck, more bottle caps. The beach there drops off to about neck deep in about 10 feet out so not a lot of shallow water hunting. I will go back in June, but was hoping for at least some clad, but that beach is CLEAN. Look forward to the summertime. So... that is my beach report for Siesta Key in March. Marty

We try hard to keep them clean.... i know i do my part. Venice is one of those beaches you have to catch right. The sand shifts alot and there is a lot of pull tabs and bottle caps.... and surprisingly nickels. As you said, you have to catch the tide right as well. I love the beach as Siesta.... but you are right they keep it picked by hunting even after dark. Thanks for getting those hair pins for us.... hate them when using PP.

I've been down in Florida for the last few days and have hit Siesta beach many times in the past. Siesta is voted America's number one beach for many years so it gets lots of people on the beach. The Siesta cruise in the parking lot is something to experience when looking for a parking space.

For all the times I've hunted Siesta, I've yet to find anything of value there. It seems that whenever I go there, there is several hunters on the beach and in the water so I am guessing that it is being hit really hard. Today I spent 6 hours there and have lots of pull tabs and bobby pins to show for it. Oh yea and two pennies. Earlier in the day at low tide, I hit another beach in the Sarasota area and found an 18k/platinum wedding band that was appraised at $900.

I have better luck at many other beaches so Siesta is off my list of beaches to hunt.

I hunted another beach this winter. It's amazing what you don't find. Till the kids come down.

EasySwing,
How do you like your Sea Hunter?

I love the sea hunter.if a target is thereit will sound off.
be prepared to dig alot. I did not hear one good target the entire stay there at Siesta but a beautiful beach nevertheless.
The excal would have saved a bit of digging.

Just to see if anything has changed, I was out at Siesta beach this morning at low tide, 5am. I was the only one on the beach at the time. By the time the sun came up, there were 9 detectors working the beach. I was working the waters edge and found nothing. Nothing but lots of bobby pins, beer caps and pull tabs. When I left, there were four working the same volleyball courts. The rest of the beach was hunted by 7 others.

My view on Siesta beach is that it is so heavily hunted, the chances of finding anything is dependent on finding that day new drops. The sand is really deep and a good storm is needed to expose the older drops that I am sure are there. It's just that nobody can get to them because the sand is so deep.
