Sierra Gold Trac

Another White's "Limited Distribution" model. Made for overseas and also available on the west coast. Overseas they are calling it the Goldmaster GT.

Basically a stripped down GMT locked into ground tracking mode. Only two controls, Gain and Threshold.

All Metal Operation: Hear all metal targets.

Auto Trac: Iron mineral interference from soil and rocks is tuned out automatically.

Two Controls; Gain & Threshold: Threshold adjusts the background hum. The Gain control adjusts for maximum sensitivity in your conditions.

48 kHz Frequency.

Waterproof 6x10" inch Elliptical DD Search coil.

Slide-In 12 Volt AA Battery Holder: 25-40 hours of hunting. (varies depending if you're using headphones or the external speaker)

Lightweight: The SGT is light weight and well balanced for all-day hunting.

Can be used with any Goldmaster Series (48 kHz - 50 kHz) Search Coils.

Optional Accessories (Sold Separately): NiCad Rechargeable Battery System

Two Year Transferable Warranty

MSRP 599.95 normally discounted to $499.95. Attractive price being the least expensive ground tracking unit available. Not impressed myself however. I do not like being locked into ground tracking and the lack of iron discrimination means I may as well use a PI. One website mentions the unit as having the audio "iron grunt" feature but I believe this is wrong. I doubt this will have any serious impact on the market but thought you all might like to know about it.

A simplified unit makes sense for overseas markets, but a total lack of discrimination would mean that not only will they dig trash (which I found to be virtually everywhere) but also hot rocks, which I also saw lots of in some areas. Most prospectors in developing nations will not recognize the "Boing" sound of an obvious hot rock as being a target which they should not dig. They dig the hot rocks and break them open looking for gold.

Looks like a good halfhearted try--but why?? all in or nuttn' is my motto-just not for me after going to website. Thanx for info/link. John

I got a new one for sale in the Classifieds if anyone wants to try it out.

I bought one for micro jewelry hunting, but my detecting time is so limited right now it will be a long time before I get to use it.
Seems like it will do a good job for that. I figure if it will detect my hand it will detect near anything.

Just making a pitch :)
