Sierra Gold Trac (kind of long - sorry)

Mike Hillis

Well-known member
Finally got to sneak some time in and try out my new Sierra Gold Trac (SGT). I went looking for something like this for use as a cleanup unit for some of my jewelry sites. I was looking for something in higher frequency than what was being offered in the new Fisher/Teknetics or Minelab Xterra products. I looked at both the GMZ and the SGT. I picked the SGT over the GMZ because of the threshold control. Right after I purchased it I got buyer

Much appreciated Mike.

I went to pick up a GMZ a few months ago, got to use it for a half hour, didn't think I'd master it without a threshold so I never bought it.

The the SGT came out and I bought one straight away (the price was too good to pass up in comparison to the GMT, and I like to keep things simple anyway) .

I got the 14" elliptical with it for deeper searching over large heaps, already had a 6"x4", but have not used it yet, only made sure it was working and are currently setting it up on a straight shaft.

Very interesting about the tracking-out of targets you mentioned, but glad to hear It can be dealt with quickly. A lot of the auto track units behave this way on the feint signals and some can be a bit of a problem to get get those first few threshold changes back quickly.

That's strange I haven't noticed my SST tracking things out. Most the time I lock it in after balancing though. I'm going to have to play with that.
I wonder if it was because of not seeing good mineral in the chips so it was tracking out tiny targets as the ground????

Have fun
Jim

Thanks Mike for the report, We appreciate you taking the time to share with us your experiences.

I was thinking of getting one, Rip the guts out and put them inside a gutted Garrett Recon and use it for fresh water hunting. That would be a super underwater unit getting masked targets with ease, These all-metal units like the CoinTrax/Goldtrax staccato all-metal, GMT/MXT Prospecting mode and Garrett AT-Gold All-Metal are great for black sand, They tend to see though masking better than VLF detectors using plain disc mode.

Thanks again,
Paul (Ca)
