Sidewinders Question

Since I am doing some more rehab from a Pacemaker implant, I have been reading up on some things that I have been wondering about concerning the "older tech" Tesoros. One of those "wonderings" is that the original, or first Sidewinder, with smaller headphone jack(1/8"?) must have come without low noise/high gain circuitry. Most, if not all that I see mentioned about the UMax Sidewinders has them as being low noise/high gain tech. All the Sidewinders are 120, but with the low noise /high gain factored in, just how much different are they from oneanother, and wouldn't that make the "original" the one "morebetter" at iron rejection? Also, I am curious as to how the low noise/high gain relates to it all, and if you can have one without the other.? In other words could the "original" Sidewinder have had low noise/ without high gain, thus sorta splitting the difference on what we may consider "old tech" and new? I'm dumb as a stump about Tech stuff, but I do know it can make a heap of difference when you are out in the dirt rooting for the goodies. Just some of my thoughts to stirr things some. Thanks, Charlie

Not sure but think we might be related Charlie, I just recently bought a Sidewinder (uMax) and back in March of 2008 I had to have 3 stents put in. When I go for a checkup at my heart doctors I feel like a kid as 99.9% of the others there are older than I am (I am 4:geek:. I guess eating too much of the wrong kinds of foods along with can do it to ya no matter how old you are. I have the reagular 1/4" headphone jack on mine, I find it to be very very good in iron I have yet to dig an iron target & I hunt with it in disc. mode with the disc. dial turned fully counter clockwise. I have been using the 5.75" coil on it and find the depth to be quite good and it is a great little jewelry finder. If I max out the sensitivity it chatters alittle (which I like) so I just back it off a bit. It is a great little detector. Good luck on your rehab and with the Sidewinder. Steve.

reading how well you like your Sidewinder with the Sens. cranked up, I think I just may do the same on mine. One place I want to try out my Sidewinder is where there is no modern junk, just early 1800's stuff, and the soil is really sandy, even on the hilltops. Stuff does get down deep, so I usually use the Tejon 5.75 which is all I need. I just enjoy swapping up on the machines now then in the irony places and the Sidewinder will need to put out all I can get from it in that sand. I think I may have answered some of my question when I reread some in the Sidewinder manuals. The manual for the "original" and the UMax are different and there was no mention of "low noise" in the original manual but it was mentioned that the SW did have "high gain". Nor did I see any mention in the UMax manual about how to do the additional tuning of the threshold and GB pots.Still some mystery in all this. Hey Steve, You are right about your diet having much to do with your heart health, and being a Dairy farmer you are tempted more than most of us. Be serious about what you "Don't" eat now and it will make a big difference. Also, count your Blessings and give thanks to God for them.. That will make the difference that really matters!. I'm 72. and can hardly wait to get back to walking the hills for some scratching. HH, Charlie
