Sidewinder?

Do any of you use a Sidewinder. I just picked one up fro a fell. It operates at 12 Khz like the Compadre but has a sensitivity adj. knob like the Silver Umax and a pinpoint button like the Cibola, with a toggle to switch from a silent search motion disc. to a threshold motion free all metal. And you can change coils on it unlike the Compadre. When i got it it didn't seem to be working right so i sent it back to Tesoro for a tune up. They will receive it today and i hope to have it back in a week or so. But anyway, any of you that use one. What do you think of it?

There are a nice little detector, my guess is that the factory set ground balance might not of been ideal for your grounds & thats why it didn't seem to work right. Having a too negative ground balance set ground balance will make a detector beep like crazy (falsing). They are a nice machine to take to the school grounds/tot lots as they are a very good jewelry hunter. Steve.

I tried raising the coil up about 2 feet then pushing the toggle to re-tune and lowering it down to just above the ground and the threshold tone stayed the same so i figured the GB was close. Problem was i buried coins at only 2" deep and it would pick them up some times but not on all passes. It might give a good tone on one try and a scratchy tone or no tone on the next. And doing an air test it was only picking up coins, even quarters, at about 2"-3". So i figured the best thing was to send it to the pros and have it checked out.

Sounds like a problem for sure, the good folks @ Tesoro will get er going for ya.

Rebel1, if you keep snooping around , you will find that the Sidewinder is one of the more sought after older Tesoros. It is a keeper and you got Lucky running up on it. I think when it came out in 95-97 it listed for $397, so that will give you some idea as to what you have. There is more meat on that bone than what most folks realize. Good luck and HH, Charlie

Thanks for the reply. Yea, i kinda think that after Tesoro gets it working right it will do all i need. Don't really need the pinpoint button with the Tesoro since i can get real close without it just by X-ing. But it does work well if i use it. Just hope that they can get it all fixed and working like it should.
