sidewalk replacement

I passed through an old neighborhood a few years ago - a short street with houses ranging from colonial to victorian (all very well kept). The sidewalks were all slate - uneven, lifted up by roots etc. I actually got out of my car to walk up and down each side of the street and it felt as though I had gone back in time. I thought boy, I'd love to be here when they decide to replace these walks. Well, Saturday night I passed by and in the dark I saw orange cones and construction barriers on the street. Sunday I took a drive over - alot of the slate had been removed and to my dissapointment most already had beds of gravel laid in preparation for pouring concrete. Two or three houses still had raw areas where the slate had been removed. Boy! I wish I knew sooner!
I did manage to pull a worn seated dime 1837, a dateless standing quarter, a 1952 rosie and some wheaties. Can't complain!
