Side by side comparison

First of all thanks to everyone who replied to my previous message about upgrading from a 6000 DI Pro SL to a DFX. I have another question hat I hope you guys can help me with. I have read the White's website info about the MXT, XLT and DFX but I cannot come up with a good side by side comparison between them. Other than dual frequencies what are the differences between these three machines and what makes one better than the other two?
I realize that this may be a loaded question but I want as much info as possible before I make my decision.
Thanks,
Chris

the dfx is a good all rounder in the right conditions will excell itself however its got a long learning curve and you really need to know what your doing with it it doesnt like electrical sources or other machines near it ,the mxt is a switch on and go machine with as good depth capabilitys and is extremly sensitive to tiny objects it also alerts you to the presence of iron better which is good when looking for occupation sites the good thing about both of these machines is they both take the full range of coils that are made for them ;the xlt is really old hat now but still does the job in the right hands ;i personally use the dfx and mxt choosing whichever i think the circumstances of the search dictate and i have the 9.5 coils a DD eclipse a tiny shooter coil and a jimmy sierrra hotshot which is my favourite this combination over the last couple of years has made me many amazing finds one of which was the george the first guinea used by whites in there xmas advertising campaign the year before last

Chris:
I have never used the xlt or dfx. but from what i understand it is a matter of punch button programing on the xlt and dfx or the simpler knob adjustments of the mxt. Folks say thet among the three that the mxt is more a turn and go machine with a really short learning curve. I have found this to be true. My first time out last year using the mxt at factory presets I found a nice barber dime, and since then lots of clad, about a dozen silver coins and 6 gold rings. It is relatively easy to use.
As far as one being better than the other it is just a matter of what you prefer. The multi uses of the mxt coin and jewelry, relic and prospecting modes would be handy if you plan on doing nugget hunting.
But like anything else the right detector in the hands of someone who really knows it will be extremely effective.
In my opinion you can't go wrong with any White's machine. They are "the" dector to get.
Good luck in your decision

Hey Mike,,,oh yeah,,,it is a loaded quetion,,,what to do, what to do???,,,I have been with those who use both the XLT and DFX, and of course they swear by their detectors,,,here is my opinion,,, I own an MXT,and I own the top-of-the-line Garrett 2500,and I own a top-of-the-line Minelab EXP II,,,guess which one I use the most,,,The MXT,,,no surprise here,,,in the last 15 months since I purchased the MXT, I have found 45 rings, $379.27 in change, lots of cool tokens and other really neat stuff,,,
Turn it on,,,simple adjust to your type of detecting and pick up the cool stuff,,,I am even seriously considering selling the Garrett 2500 and buying another MXT (for my family to use when we go together),,,,,,,by the way, I use a Bigfoot coil, and have kept it on the MXT since the 3rd day after I bought the MXT,,,I love the combination,,,so after all of this consultation, I guess that you'll have to go with your gut feeling (ask others, on other message boards how they feel about the detectors they use) and you'll get many different opinions,,,this has been a loaded answer, but, just one man's opinion,,,HH.....Lon

Thanks for the info. Other than the recognition of Iron, can you elaborate on what circumstances would make you choose one detector over the other?
Chris

yep surely if i'm on a rally we have loads over here the dfx tends to get swamped out by other machines in close proximity ,also where there are high voltage power lines and they tend to run the cables in groups of six suspended over the fields here giving out roughly 30,000 volts these will also swamp the dfx so i always carry the mxt as back up and it is not so badly affected ;also if using on a known night soil field where there is going to be a lot of english hot rocks (burnt cinders ) from old fire places the mxt tends to give better recognistion of them ,detecting varies from place to place country to country and on our crowded little isle even 20 miles can vary your search methods completly so be prepared

Sold my 2500 and bought the MXT. LOve the MXT.
Tried to get my wife to switch from the GTi1500, she doesn't like the MXT. She might just like the Tesoro Cortez, I just bought. Which kinda of works like both the MInelab Sov.(but, faster) and a MXT. And is a toss up with unit to use---- MXT or Cortez.

An MXT would have some BIG advantages over some of the others.
You can adjust your Discrimination to IGNORE rather than Deep Null/Reject over Iron, MINIMIZING Iron Masking.
Its Wide Range Visual Discrimination along with its Target Locking Characteristics make it a very desireable model.
