 Help ...Preserving Copper Coins after cleaning

too dried out like? As the air gets to it after Peroxide, or even a water cleaning, copper will do that. Can even flake :O So, many of us use a product called "Blue Ribbon". It's billed as a coin conditioner, & sorta coats the coin with a preservative. You can do a quick olive oil soak, but that really stains copper overly dark I feel.......maybe "Sandman Don-NJ" can offer some advice too??
My buddy Bill H. carries "Blue Ribbon" if you can't find it....
HH, Bill

I did that to a couple Buffalo nickels I found last year. I'd rub a little solid parafin onto the nickel, heat it slightly near a candle flame, and as soon as the wax melts, quickly rub it over the coin.

I just have never tried it personally.....
We really need the "SugarSandman" (that's a great forum name Don) to come in here....he's the copper expert. I have a whole display case of blackened, overcleaned, un-readable discs. :D So, I feel when in doubt less cleaning is best (unless it begins flaking)....
Perhaps gatehider can tell us about the "cleaning process" he used on his 1803 Large cent?? :lmfao:

Bill ...Yes there too dried out . I'll see if I can finds some "Blue Ribbon"
Thanks to all for your help .

Of course Blue Ribbon, but you can use something must cheaper, but not sure about future problems, but I have used it occasionally. Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Just a light coat and rub it thoroughly and wipe dry, repeat if necessary... Seems to work rather well, but again, wipe off all excess.

Olive oil, will leach out over time, which is another disadvantage of it, despite making copper darker. I had to replace a lot of Mylar coin holders due to the Olive oil fogging up the Mylar. Have not used Olive Oil in years and don't miss it a bit.

You know the white cotton "Ricker Display cases"?? I've had buttons & relics I used olive oil on begin to seep out into the cases making an oil mess of the white stuff...like you I don't miss it.
