My daughter and I combined tidepooling and detecting today. She worked the scoop and I detected. No keepers, but she did see her first octopus in the wild. This is her rendering. - ziphius

I used to take my daughter tide pooling. Now I take her and my grand daughter. That's one of there favorites to find.

Yeah we used to go exploring at the beach at low tide in SO CAL and find starfish, sea urchins, and a creature with a big mouth that looked like a big hunk of snot fastened to a rock. Used to feed them popcorn and watch them try to digest it. :) Back then you could still scrape abalone off the rocks. You know if you drop a sea urchin into fresh water it kills them instantly and all their color bleeds out into the water? Lots of interesting critters at the beach. Clams used to be so thick we dug them with our hands. Then there was this little critter ( some kind of sand crab I think ) that would stand on its head and disappear into the sand in the blink of an eye. Regular crabs were all over the place.
