Show me your scoop tethers

I just bought myself an RTG aluminum scoop for Christmas. I get tired of lugging around my stainless one when hunting the wet sand and my dry sand wire mesh scoop is way too lightweight. So, my stainless scoop has a wood handle and I simply drilled a hole in the end and use a rope tether with a carabiner and clip it onto my belt. The new RTG has an aluminum tube handle with a plastic grip and I'm I'm not sure of the best way to attach a tether to the end of the scoop. Could you guys show me what you use? Thanks and Happy New Years and HH.

Are you tethering yourself in the water or on the dry sand? I would give up my scoop and my MD to save my butt if in the water if I had to but I sure wouldn't want to be tethered to either. Do you drag it behind by the tether?

Tethering yourself to your scoop / detector could work against you. I had a situation where my scoop literally saved my life, I am not sure if it had been tethered to me I would be here today.

Well you gotta tell that one now......

(and probably detect safer sites!)

I don't use a tether on my RTG scoops, but I do have a small loop at the top of each that loosely goes over my wrist (I also use it to hang them for storage). To attach it I simply slid the rubber handle off the scoop, put a stainless washer in the top of the handle and put a loop of parachute cord through it. The rubber handle holds tight and I have never had a problem with it sliding off.

Wow.
Thanks for that link.

I find the body board leashes that attach to the wrist with velcro work very well with the RTG scoop. I find the leashes on the beach abandoned when kids break their boards. Price is right! The loop at the end that attaches to the board is a snug fit and has to be worked over the grip. I leave it at the grip notch so that it doesn't slide down the handle. If needed the scoop can be abandoned with a quick pull on the velcro.

I just use about three feet of 550 cord with a "D-ring" attached to either my belt loop or the belt strap of one of my finds pouch/bags.

Happy Hunting!:)

I use a piece of para cord with a D ring to attach to my belt. Use a hangmans noose around the handle of the scoop. Cheap and works for me.
