I met up with my treasure hunting partner and his girlfriend at the airport in Birmingham and jumped on the plane. It wasn't a long flight, and the time flew by.
We rescued our bags from the roundabout of doom, and hoped on the transfer to the hotel. I checked in and went to my room. First think first I unpacked my Excalibur 1000 from the suitcase and set it up. The moment of truth came, I turned on the detector and waited hoping for the low background hum that was going to be my constant companion for the next 14 days...There it was, I love that noise!
I put the scoop together, gave Eddie a call and met him 5 minutes later in reception. We flagged down our first taxi, and my Spanish got us to the first beach of our trip with no problems.
There's always a bit of nervous anticipation as I put on my wetsuit for the first hunt of a trip, will the police kick you off? Are the locals friendly? You never quite know what will happen.
Eddie hung back and watched to see what reception I would receive before he jumped on to the fray, so I waded out to neck depth and turned on my trusty Excalibur.
I hunted alone for about an hour, then I saw Eddie kitting up. I had about

awesome finds! What's your plans for the jewelry, keep or melt?

A great vacation and a great haul!! Love the gold!!!! Enjoyed your account of your travels and recoveries and looking forward to seeing more finds from future hunts!

Hi Dnd,
I am going to keep it until I ave run out of money then sell it on. I've never tried melting it down, could be fun though! Have a good Christmas :)

Excellent adventure for both of you and your ladies. Hard hunting and preserverance paid off. I don't know what I would do if I found that huge gold chain and cross in my scoop. I really enjoyed this post and the way you wrote it up. Have you ever detected around Ibiza in Spain? Lots of beaches there and lots of foreign tourists. Lots of gold, clad and platinum. What a combination. Drysuit diving requires
extra training, doesn't it? Do you ever have trouble getting thru customs with finds like this? I hope to go to Amsterdam and water hunt one of these days and I respect the Antiquity laws but this looks like modern gold jewelry to me. Congratulations.

Hi Fongu, no I just wear the jewellery that fits, and put the rest in a metal tin in my suitcase. Diving in a dry suit is different than a wetsuit, and you do need to do an extra course, but it's fun and easy, and it is so much warmer, I would be Irving in the UK right now in a wetsuit. If you come to Amsterdam give me a shout and visit me in Devon, England, we can do some detecting together. Have a great 2014 :)

Thanks. Don't know when I'll get back across the pond, but will holler at you when I do. You have a great 2014 yourself.
