Could someone recommend a good digging tool? I'm thinking about buying a military shovel would this be a good idea to cut into the dirt better?

Lesch digging shovels are the best..Though a Military shovel will work.

Finally got a chance to try it out last night in ground with the top 3-4" frozen. Worked pretty well considering the conditions.

And it's good defense against predators (2- 4-, or 0-legged).

Like Snowy, I have the Predator 58 too, great shovel, works in the Iowa frost. Used it the last two days to dig 5 Indians and a Seated dime. 1891s/s. Go with the model 80 though cause it has a broader more rounded point, better for our clay. Heavy shovel, I just tie about a 5 foot rope to it and my belt loop and let it drag behind me, that way I don't have to carry it. Good luck breaking it, I don't believe it's possible. Don't freeze.
