Should I upgrade? AT vs. gti 1500

Brief background.
I started detecting in `08 with an Ace 250. The thing was a beast! I found several gold rings & a NICE gold "grill", which all went to midwest refin. & paid for a gti 1500.
I then sold my 250 to a close friend for a smoking deal...who cracked the housing shortly thereafter :( (never should've let that 250 go)

in `10 I sold off my MD stuff because of shoulder issues. Two years later I got the MD itch & came across a deal on a gently used gti 1500 for a fair price.
Got surgery this past summer on busted shoulder & it's well enough to start swinging again.

So I'm currently using the gti 1500 with the stock coil & occasionally the 8.5x11 DD...can't say I've warmed up to the DD very much.

I'm wondering if the AT brings anything to the table that my 1500 doesn't.
I don't beach or water hunt. Only parks or private prop. I think the AT is 1lb lighter, if I read that right...sure miss the light weight of my old 250 after swinging all morning.

Hey! Welcome back to the Sport!

You may want to throw this question over to the AtPro forum...theres a lot of helpful end users that will add advice,
Mud.

The imaging on the 1500 might be worth the weight issue. I'm hooked on the 2500, and I have a bad arm with nerve damage, and that does get heavy. Hate the thought of losing the imaging, but do want to try an ATP.

I'm curious about the frequencies that each uses. If I read right the gti runs at 6.5khz and the atpro at 15khz.
Yeah I don't like the thought of losing the imaging either and the weight isn't the sole reason I'm eyeing another machine.
I'm curious if the atpro, with newer electronics & a higher khz wouldn't serve me better.

I pretty much hunt parks in either coin or jewelery mode and notch out if things are trashy. If it's really bad or I'm simply not in the mood, I'll flip over to custom & cherry pick.

The more I think about my question the more I think I'm the only one that can answer it...and only if I can test both side by side.

First of all I hunt all 3. Each one has a purpose for me. Like different clubs to a golfer. You already know the difference between the Ace & the 1500. The Pro is another animal. Great machine for the money. It's target separation & depth, plus water proof in the rain & wading, makes it the most versatile. That 250 can be had for around $200 now new. So the Ace or the Pro ? Now, your shoulder becomes a factor too. I'd get the Ace, between it and the 1500, depending on how much you hunt, no problem paying it off. Than maybe the Pro later. Than again , what do I know?

Hi Groundsclown, Being YOU really LIKED the ACE-250, YOU may want to look into the ACE-350 instead of the AT-Pro!! The ACE-350 has the SAME Frequency and SAME 11" DD
Coil as the AT-Pro, but in an ACE Housing!! The AT-Pro is WATERPROOF and naturally MORE Expensive because of that FACT!! If I were YOU, I would try and find a DEALER, and HANDLE both Detectors, before I put any MONEY out!! Hope this HELPS, Les Robinson.

Yeah I was thinking about the 350.
I wasn't aware that the 350 ran at the same khz as the atpro though. Interesting.
As far as waterproofing, not needed for me. I don't hunt in the rain. And living in FL I wouldn't take it to the beach & water hunt as I feel there are better choices.

I'll give the 350 another look.

Thanks.

The ace 350 has a 8.25 kHz frequency while the at pro has a 15 kHz frequency.

Thats what I thought. I still think I'll grab a 350 when the time is right.

I have a 350 love mine nice and light great machine getting a nel sharpshooter coil in the spring for it good luck

I love my AT Pro! Just the better audio in pro mode was worth the switch from the ace 250.I don't know how it compares to the gti though.

Well --I have always like the 1500 -- with the imaging -- and true depth (anysize target) makes the difference for me --- I am not a Large DD fan either --seems that what the way detectors stock coil are coming with today
