Should I trade My X-Terra 70 for an MXT??

Hello everyone,
I have a chance to trade my X-Terra 70 for an MXT. This would be an even trade, no extra coils, ect. I have never had a chance to use the MXT, and wanted to come here and ask all of you experienced users if in fact the MXT a better all around machine. I am mainly a coin/relic hunter. I do not care about weight. I like good discrimination and fair depth. What features drew you current users to the MXT vs another machine? I thank all of you in advance. Good luck to all of you this hunting year.
Thanks

I think the MXT is a great machine, But I have never used the X-Terra 70 to give a comparison. You can't go wrong with the MXT if you decide to trade, the MXT is a very versatile detector.
Good luck in your decision.....:whites:............:usaflag:

Thanks Bob. I've got a tough decision ahead of me. From what I hear they are possibly the 2 most loved detectors available.
Thanks for the input.

I HAVE HAD A NEW X--TERRA--70 DID NOT DO MUCH FOR ME ,BUT MY MXT IS THE BETTER MACHINE AND IS BETTER ON NUGGETS:clapping:

I had a XT-70 along with my MXT but sold it last year. I loved the weight of the XT-70 or the lack of it, but I just did not care for it all that much.. It spent a lot of time in the closet. Its a good detector but I preferred using the MXT even though it weighted a lot more. I don't miss it. HH Dennis in Idaho

I have the MXT and would not trade it for anything. It is one of the most versatile detectors out there. I find that it holds its own against other detectors in coin and Jewelry hunting, Relic and prospecting. It is built like a tank. It has a wide selection of coils available and after market coils as well. It has a turn and go setting and many tweaks you can use to fine tune the detector as well. It works well on the beach also. I search in confidence that I will find anything if it is there shallow to deep.

having put in ample field time with all the X-Terra's and the MXT and M6, I wouldn't hesitate an instant to swap an X-T 70 for a same-condition MXT. Definitely a much better detector in several ways.

Monte;
Thats a bold statement, and without the hint of confrontation on my part can you eloaborate on the above .

Question: How do you define better in several ways..Weight, depth, better built, easier to operate, more stable, personal preference ????????????

Have owned both. Traded the X-terra 70. Still have the MXT.

The first detector I bought last year was a X-Terra 70. Sold it after about two months and bought the MXT. Much happier with the MXT.

It looks like the resale is similar, but it looks like to me the MXT is in more demand. I've used the M6, Mxt, xterra 30. I would do the trade. Good luck.

For those of you who have used both. Tell me about the weight difference, weight is a big deal to me,.

Thanks in advance, John

Here you go, asking me to elaborate. .... so, I will. :)

I don't mind 'confrontation' as long as it's not threatening. Note, too, that I said I would trade for a same-condition MXT. That's because I have found that some MXT's I see in use are pretty well used, but seldom have I seen an X-Terra 70 that sees as much field time.

To answer your question about "several ways" of being 'better' (an opinion of course):

Weight has to be figured in with Balance. While the X-Terra 70 might weigh a bit less, it also doesn't adjust short enough for many to have a good 'fit' and therefore balance is off.

Depth, and I am referring to "coin detection depth" has generally favored the MXT/M6 in my mineralized ground and elsewhere I have hunted with them.

Better built? Yes, I feel the White's MXT has the better build quality. Little things like the rubber headphone jack flap that easily wears and breaks off on the X-Terra is annoying. I don't care for the location of the headphone jack on the X-Terra control pod. The coil-to-rod mounting is more solid with the White's, while the Minelab unit can experience more coil 'flop'.

As for ease-of-operation, they are not too bad, but I favor the MXT as I like knobs. Also, the trigger toggle is much handier for Pinpointing a target, and that task is much easier and more precise. The notch segment approach provides a number of 'segments' on the X-Terra, while the MXT discrimination is fully variable which allows for a precise setting in some conditions.

Stability was more of an issue with the X-Terra when around some electrical power transmission line locations than what the MXT provided. Under most field conditions they were somewhat close in performance, but generally the MXT seemed to operate quieter (using DD coils) than the X-Terra 70 when things got bad.

Personal Preference, since you asked, leads me to the MXT as I can use a 5" DD for the nastiest of stuff, or a 6" DD in less trash infested sites, or a 6

You did good Monte!!!!:clapping: HH Dennis in Idaho

Man that was a good answer Monte.......:clapping:.......................

I ran a Terra 70 for over 12 months. I did find a lot of gold, coins and relics with it but when I got to use the MXT properly I instantly saw the superiority of the MXT,s tracking in hot ground.
Its control-ability is way above the Terra 70. I would back the MXT over the 70 in hot ground any day. I'm in Australia and live in the Golden Triangle where the ground is real bad in places.
All VLF,s do have areas where they have a hard time here, the MXT is no exception, but out of all the VLF,s on the market the MXT stands out as the best in hot ground.

Just wanted to thanks everyone for their comments. Don't burn me at the stake, but I purchased a DFX. I had a friend on this forum give me a great deal, and I just could not pass it up. The MXT sounds incredible, and I can't wait to try one someday. Thanks again for all of the wonderful feedback.

Mmmmmmm, seems you dod not mention anything about discrimination, how does the two machines compare for coin shooting in lots of trash?

Trade if for a F75 but I don't think anyone will bite

Hey Low-Boy, I think I've watched some of your videos on youtube. The F75 does sound like a great detector. I had an F5 I didn't care for, so I am hesitant to jump into another Fisher.
Thanks
