SHOULD I SEND MY MTX BACK TO WHITES?

ME (MXT) MY DAD (VISION) AND BROTHER (M6)

WE ALL WENT OUT TODAY. MY MXT WAS ACTING VERY UN STABLE. MY SETTINGS WAS THE GAIN AT 9, DISCRIMINATE SET AT THE FIRST PRESET, USING A WHITES 5.3 COIL. I HUNT IN THE RELIC MODE WITH THE TOGGLE SWITCH PUSHED FORWARD(TO CUT DOWN ON THE CHATTERING). I KEEP THE GROUND BALANCE LOCKED, AFTER BALANCING OF COARSE.

THE AREA WAS VERY TRASHY. I FOUND LOTS OF TRASH AND VDI THAT JUMPS EVERYWHERE.

I LOCATED A GOOD SOUND REPEATABLE WITH THE VDI JUMPING AROUND +78 , +81 , +88 THE OBJECT WAS 4 TO 5 INCHED DEEP.

MY DAD CHECKED IT WITH HIS VISION AND GOT REPEATABLE TONE BUT WITH -20 , -15 , -10

MY BROTHER CHECKED IT WITH HIS M-6 AND GOT REPEATABLE TONE AND HIS VDI WAS -10 , +2 , +8

WHY WOULD THERE BE SUCH A LARGE VDI RANGE BETWEEN MINE AND THEIRS. IT MAKES ME NOT TRUST THE MACHINE AND ALSO MAYBE SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH MY MXT SO I THINK I AM GOING TO SEND MY DETECTOR TO WHITES.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE SUPPOSE TO BE THAT BIG OF A GAP OR IF ANY KNOWS WHY THE MXT IS DOING THIS.

ANY COMMENTS ARE WELCOME

I HUNT IN THE RELIC MODE WITH THE TOGGLE SWITCH PUSHED FORWARD(TO CUT DOWN ON THE CHATTERING) Using this position doesn't cut down the chattering on my MXT. This position sounds the same as the C/J mode. The center trigger relic mode is the one that stops the chattering because of increased filtering.

For sure the MXT and M6 should have read the same. If you are basing your sending it in to Whites on this one time I wouldn't. There are too many other factors. For instance you were running Relic and for sure your father and brother were not. Did you switch coils with your brother to see if that was the problem. Did you try the C/J mode so you would be running the same as your brother? Was her running in tone mode, and what was his disc. setting? Did he have his trac locked also? Where they running 5.3 coils? Was your coil connection tight? Did you get something under your coil cover?

The Vision is a whole new detector, I don't know if you can compare it with the MXT but you should be able to compare with your brother and his M6. Rob

The M6 and MXT should have provided similar performance, and even the Vision should have been close. But there are some basic things left out of your description that need to be checked out first:

How does your MXT/5.3 do with a known good target? (Quarter on the ground, ground balanced)
