Should I get a Classic series?

Ok before I start I'll give a run-down of my decisions:

At first I was looking at either the Prizm II or the Ace 250. I chose the Ace 250 cause it had more features.

Then after a bit of reading I found the Ace had no actual true all-metal mode and no adjustment for ground balance. Not sure of the depth on it though.

So I started looking at the Fisher 1225-X and Silver UMax. I figured they may not have the display, but they'd have better depth into the ground. Well all-metal is only in pinpointing, no adjustable ground balance, and has silent discrimination.

So now I'm checking up on the Classic SL series.

Ok so here I am so far lol. I was wondering about some things on them.

1. Is it an actual all-metal mode on them or is it like the Ace 250?

2. What is the difference between the Classic series and Classic SL? I ask cause of this link here http://www.tomstreasures.com/whitesreviews.html , which the review for the Classic III says it's worse than normal in trashy areas, whereas the Classic SL III reviews have no such complaints. Is it differing opinion or is the SL series superior in trash?

3. What is/are the differences between the Classic II and Classic III? How big of a difference do they make? I think it's something like an extra knob & coil on the III.

4. How much would a Classic SL II or Classic SL III cost me? I know I can't get one new that's for sure lol.

Now I know I may be a little or way off on some of the things I've said here so please excuse me for that lol. Out of all this I am just trying to find the one with the best depth, settings, and quality. A display or meter doesn't really matter to me. And any input or suggestions on all this would be greatly appreciated :). Thank you for taking your time to read all of this. I know it's a long post. :D

p.s. I still have to check these out, but how good are the Pro series (4900/D Pro, 5900/D Pro, 6000/D Pro) and the Quantum series?

p.s.s. How do you sort through all of these reviews that say something is completely terrible in one and another person praises it? Cause now I read some review denouncing adjustable ground balance.

The Difference with the Classic III and the Classic III SL is just a "black sand" switch that helps in mineralized soil. It also might have the ability to slightly adjust the frequency so you can hunt with other similar units. Supose to give better depth. The Classic III is a great detector for coins up to about 4-5 inches. I also have a Minelab Quattro and a DFX. The Classic III is superior in trashy areas and iorn infested areas. I will not sell it. It has one discrimination knob that you can turn all the way down and gives it an "all metal mode". Typically for the iorn infested old sites I just turn it a little off the fully off and I get anything but old rusty iorn.
Last November my son and I went to an old park. I was tired of him getting all the silver with the DFX so I gave him the classic III and I took the DFX. In less than 45 minutes he had 3 silver dimes with one being a 1906 Barber(picture attached)! I have seen the Classic III go for $150 on ebay. A steal.
But I must admitt I have heard some good things about the ACE 250. It has much better pinpointing with a digital display telling you how deep. The Classic pinpointing is a "motion mode" pinpointing so it's not as easy. Very rarely do I even need to pinpoint with the classic.

I have a Classic IDX and XL-Pro. I won't repeat some of the things that have been mentioned, but personally find the Classic IDX (basically a Classic III with a meter) to be a decent all-around detector with good depth. I've found dimes up to 6-7 inches, and quarters up to 8-10 inches, in low mineralized ground. The stock 9.5 coil handles trashy areas adequately, but is exceptional with the 5.3 Bullseye coil. I also have the Mr Bill mods on this machine. The XL-Pro is superior with IDing (the meter is awesome and machine has 4 filters versus 2 for the Classic), better trash separation (even with the 9.5 coil), and a little more depth. Also has AutoTrac ground balancing. Used Classic III units on ebay run around $150 as mentioned, IDXs run around $200-225, and XL-Pros run around $400-500. Hope this helps. HH, Kevin
