Aussie Chris.Victoria Australia.Quote" I use a Garrett Ace 250 and a Garrett Infinium for coins and treasure. I love all my machines but have a special affinity for the Ace. She has been real good to me !" Hope this helps.

We have several Aussies on the forums ( Chris and Mick come to mind ) using 250's and they do great with them.

G'day Rizsieblue.
The Ace is my favorite detector. I own an Explorer and an X-Terra 30, but mostly use the Ace. Where do you intend to use it? I've used it on the beaches at the Gold Coast, Newcastle and Kiama with no problems. When hunting in the surf, just drop your sensitivity to 5 bars and knock out the first 3 notches, as this helps with dealing with the wet sand. It handles the dry sand easily. With the large coil on, it goes as deep as the Explorer with it's standard coil. It has good target separation, and the best target feedback that I've ever seen in a detector. I mostly hunt on lawn, and once you learn how to pinpoint with it, you will find that target recovery with a screw driver will be very easy! In fact, I consider it to be one of the most accurate pinpointing machines on the market.
Just a word of warning though. If you are using another brand of machine, like an X-Terra, I found that it took me a bit of time to adjust to the audio system. It sounds a bit abrupt at first, but once you get used to it, then you find that it gives you excellent target information. I've got a couple of hundred hours on it now and it surprises me, how few targets that I investigate as the detector gives you a good idea on whether a target is worthwhile or not. That will take a while to figure out though.
One of the neat features of the Ace, is that our $1 and $2 coins come in on the same notch, which is the first notch of the bell tone. Very handy! if you hunt modern coins, then you will find it hard to beat.
If there is anything a bit more specific that you want to ask, then please do, as your first question was a bit too generalised.
Mick Evans.
P.S. What part of Oz do you live in?
