Shortening a cable??

How hard is it to shorten the cable on my stock 8" cz coil?. I will never hip mount it and it is just to dang long
 
Personally unless you have the equipment and expertise I would take to an electronics shop as one bad solder joint and unit won't work right..Years ago when I hipmounted everything had to have plug redone as hipmounting puts a strain on cable connections and a TV shop did it inexpensively and above all professionally.

Will a shorter cable affect how unit works is a question for Fisher but the hipmount CZ7 and CZ7A had short cables and worked just fine...
