Went out today to test a lens I'm going to sell. Sigma 400mm f/5.6 D APO macro.... these were taken just to see how the lens would do...Hard to hold steady but it passed ok I think.

Thot you might hang with the 3.5. The 5.6 is a bit dark and cumbersome for MF. Looks like you used AF on the gator, which selected the closest linear pattern to focus on. The focus zone looks pretty good but likely not as 'crispy' as your Nikon would produce. Also the light may have been a little strange today, another factor that might handicap the Sigma a bit more. I'll probably hang with the Sigma unless I become irrational, but your skills justify a Great piece of glass. Not sure why the 400 isn't up to the Bigma, but it doesn't seem to be. I've been using a pretty high ISO and is maybe some (a lot?) more 'noise' in some of mine than should be.

Actually I have really missed the Bigma and down the road my sell the Nikon 3.5 and buy another bigma.. It was a sharp lens and I loved the range it had. One lens for every need. I still have the Sigma 400 and it's a nice lens but hard to hold steady . The Nikon is excellent quality but in some shots the bigma is fantastic just wish they made it with IS for hand holding which is what i like...I guess they sell a ton of them so that's why the came out with the 150-500 instead of putting IS on the bigma...
