Short spin on the Gulf, found a" whatsit" ???

PaPa-Joe-Fla.

New member
I went to a Gulf beach 20 miles from home. Spent 3 hrs. in the water. The beach looked like a minefield, holes everywhere in and out of the water. I managed to get a few targets that were left behind. Some clad, junk earring, and a "whatsit" The earring got my attention as I saw the stone in the sand in my scoop before I spotted the silver post. The other item I found was an erratic beeping sound and very faint. It was about 12 inches deep. Got it home and found it was magnetic, strong enough to hold a set of 5 keys on a keyring.

Also ran into a couple guys from Ocala Fl. with a Garret 300 working the dry sand. They were new to the hobby so I told them to check out the forum if they had any questions.HH

BEACH WAS EMPTY, A STORM HAD JUST PASSED OVER ALLOT OF LIGHTING.

From memory, I think I have seen these before in the toy section of a magazine, they normally come in a set of 3 from what I under stand

Looks about like the cow "Magnet" i use in my scoop
LOL! I used to make cow magnets when I lived in Bradenton, Fl.
Just the other day, I was thinking how they would be perfect for my scoop. Where did you get yours? I live in Indiana now so it would be a little difficult for me to just go to the shop and get them. I guess I could call them..LOL!

Hey, I lived in Bradenton in '80. Never made cow magnets though <G> Small world... HH Joe

They were made by a company called Manatee Magnetics, located on US41 near the Port of Manatee. They are a sister company of Precise Power Corporation. Not sure if they are still in operation.

I plan on moving back soon. All of these guys are killing me with their beach found gold.LOL!

Hello, I think the magnet you found is part of a toy. They're sold in sets of two and I believe are called "rattlesnake eggs". You hold two of them in your hand separated by about one inch and toss them in the air, when they connect they kind of spin around each other and make a weird noise. I have a set I got at a dollar store.

Filerunner is correct, (we sell them at the magic shop)

Hello Joe,

The whatsit is one of a pair. Two to a packet. When you put them close together they spin and dance and I think they are made to entertain and teach children. Don't know about that but they sure did entertain me when I saw a pair in action. Can't remember what they are called. I found one in a school yard and thought it was from outterspace. At least I was hoping.

All the best

It am amased at the combined knowledge of the people on this site. I have never heard of such a thing as Rattle Snake Eggs. If my Grandkids had asked for a set I would have thought they were crazy. Thanks again for solving that mistery for me.

I think they place the magnets in the first stomach in order to catch any metal that the cow might accidently ingest, like nails and pieces of fence and stuff like that..

Our local kite /toy store sells those magnet toys.. you gave me good idea, put one in my scoop! shaka \OOO/ Mikey

PaPa Joe,
I'm the one you called Steve from Ocala  My name's really Jay. Went to St. Augustine today ... not much luck:(.. Got a few pennies and a 9mm Luger shell casing yesterday

Sorry Jay, I did get Rick right ??? My memory is not as good as it once was.Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy it, and get plenty of info. for the future. How does the Garrett machine do around the wet salt sand? I am sure I will run into you again somewhere around the Beaches. Good Luck and HH (happy hunting).
