I had time for a short hunt before doing some errands and as the temps. and humidity were supposed to soar, I decided to head to the woods and detect around an old home site that I have only hunted one other time.
I hunted for about 3 hours and since my buddy and I had hunted very close to the house site, I decided to search further away in hopes of finding an area that may have had some activity ie: garden, shed, hog pen, wood chopping area and such.
Signals were far and few between and then only the occasional piece of iron or shotgun shell.
I then moved back closer to the house site to see if I could sniff out anything else that we might have missed.
I searched around one side and then move around to the other side where the chimney was and about 5 feet away from the chimney, I got a pretty good signal although it sounded like it was large and had a little crackle to the sound.
I dug down about 4" and saw that disc peeking out of the soil.
On closer looking, it turned out to be a large cent. Also in the same hole was a nail about 1" long which I guess somewhat hid the signal or at least made it sound like junk.
I was surprised to find this after we had searched here before, but I guess like the old saying goes, you never find it all.
The only other thing I found was a brass key plate that may have fit on a small box and that was found not far from the large cent.
I cleaned the cent up some, but I can't get a date off of it, but from what detail that is left, It is between 1816 and 1836.
Thanks for looking,
Felix
