ok guys i only got out for a couple hours this weekend and didnt get alot but ill post my finds anyway my best find was a 1918 s merc followed by a 1941 wheat then a ra 66 gauge rifle shell and lastly a heart shaped pendent made of aluminum not silver this time but my heart sure was pounding when i looked in the hole and saw it sticking out well its beeen too hot here in new york this week to get out high 80s to low 90s but its suppose to cool down starting on friday hopeflly i can get out after work or this weekend again been kind of staying in where the ac is well bye for now and may all your finds be silver and gold

Nice finds Bottlefreak, isn't a 66 cal. kinda unusual, don't think I ever heard of one,how old do you think that shell case is?

not really sure how old it is but it came from the same yard as the 1918 merc just looked at it again with a magnifing glass to be sure it says 66 and it does i know there were all kinds of calibers out there but im not sure when this one was used thanks for the reply and may all your finds be silver and gold

Its not the caliber, It sounds like its a military surplus round.
RA could stand for Remington Arms, and the 66 could be for the year of manufacture.
Looks like its about the size of a .308 win(7.62 Nato) casing.

well i use the bounty hunter 3300 not a real exspensive machine but for the money it does the job its not fancy but its simple to use and not complicated to operate found quite a bit of things this year already and hopes of many more definately going out this weekend for possibly some allday hunts trying to obtain permission for a old country church built around hte turn of the century still in use today with a moderately sized lawn never know what might be there tried a few cellar holes but came up empty handed just an old axe head and the usual tin cans and square nails i think ive located some old privy pits around them so maybe for a switch ill try privy digging for an afternoon never did it before but there again you never know well bye for now and thanks for the reply may all your finds be silver or gold

you could be right about that being a date not caliber im not into military artifacts so it was only a guess tried searching for a 66 caliber and it didnt come up with anything so your probably right thanks for the reply happy hunting and may all your finds be silver and gold

thanks for the reply its not in the best of shape but the date is readable and mintmark is legabble but still a surprising find its the oldest dime that ive recovered so far love the look of silver its surprising how they come out looking shiny after all the years theyve been buried. i got out for a couple of hours today went looking at 1800s cellar holes and i dont know how everyone else finds things in the woods i came up empty handed i looked over 5 house foundations giving each one about an hour of hunt time and didnt even find a penny i did come up with a piece of plate that has a gold edgeing on it that read as a quarter on the meter i dont know if this is considered real gold or not if you know please reply back its not a big piece but i guess it still counts what do you think i think ill stick to local parks and houses in the city from now on atleast i usually come away with silver but i enjoyed being in the woods and being outside it was in the mid 70s here in new york today beautiful im going to be hunting a 75 year old house tomorrow i hope to have something to post then the yard is small but you never know well thanks again for the reply may all your finds be silver and gold
