Short hunt with the E-Trac

Phil

New member
I've been going back to sites I've pounded and hunting them with the E-Trac to see if I can find anything else. So far every site had given up at least a coin or two. Today I went to a mansion I hunted 7yrs ago and got over 150 old coins over a detecting year. I go back once in a while but the last 4yrs I've been there I got skunked. Spent almost all my detecting time talking to the owner so I had about a half hour to hunt before going home. First I found the nickel and then on the way back to my car I found the dime. Both coins were on edge and about 6 or 7in deep. I've got a lot to learn about the E-Trac but I think I'm going to like it.

If you have a old site that is private and digging several holes is not an issue you can learn a lot in a hurry by digging by sound and not worry about the numbers or crosshairs on deep targets. It is nice if you have a relic shovel and can dig a nice big fast plug. You do want to watch the numbers but not for deciding factor to dig or not to dig.Just listen for solid sounding signals and dig them, this opened my eyes to just how good the E-Trac is.Hope this makes sense,Ray.

all my sites are private. I can't go by the numbers Ray, I don't have a clue what coins come up.lol I know they are different from my Explorer. I have been going by sound. Once I hear something interesting, I first go to quick mask and a clear screen to see what the ferrous number is and then I pinpoint it to see if the target pinpoints in the same place I hear it in discriminate.

It sounds like you have a good handle on it.To many cheat themselves by getting caught up in specific numbers and are leaving good targets in the ground.Especialy in trashy sites that can mess with ID numbers a lot,Ray.

Ray Mo tells it like it is especially in areas like that where you know coins left are deep or not found for some reason before, but I was hoping to hear that the number ID on the shallower coins would hit more accurately on the E trac. In other words how do the "E" number IDs perform in areas where I want to go out and coin shoot easy targets? say I'm hurrying to pick up the new change after one of the bull fights or when Mrs karowitts throws money to get the kids off her lawn? Would you say the number ID is off as much on the E as it is on the EX? Or is it more accurate? By the way don't tell Mrs Karowitts I'm detecting up her ammo.

I'm not sure how the numbers do to be honest. I've been going by sound mainly since the numbers and the smart screen are both different than my Explorers were. I don't remember ever having trouble IDing shallow coins with my Explorers. I never really hunted clad with it though, I use my MXT or the F70 I got last year. Either of those machines does better on hunting clad or gold rings than the Explorers do. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
