short hunt today.....wheats, indian, and token

got out of work early today and stopped by a place I had permission to hunt, it is a house in town from late 1800's. There was some MAJOR electrical interference and I remembered someone saying the 3khz coil was effected more by electrical interference so I went to my car and changed to my med freq coil (7.5khz) I have not used this coil since last summer...lol

anyhow, it did not help, I tried every channel on noise cancel, nothing helped, kept lowering sensitivity, did not help. I was bummed. I hunted as slow as I could trying to get some sort of signals with my sensitivity so low. I did manage 5 shallow wheats that were in 4" range. Got the token pretty easy too since it was 4" or less. The indian was about 6" and I just about did not dig it. It sounded like trash, but what did I have to lose?

It is the first indian of he year....1882.

A short hunt with Major electrical interference, I'd say you did realy good.

nice indian better than mine! did much better than i have so far this year! great job man! like the token too kinda curious to know about it.

I am thinking it was the Shell oil gas co that gave those out. Here is a link to similar, Beale.

Good hunt! The good news is because of that high EMI it may have kept that area as virgin ground giving other machines trouble before you. The X-Terra's with VFLEX are about the very best detectors on the market to handle EMI(electromagnetic interference). I also have a GP-3000 and know a something about this. Bigger coils pick up more EMI. Both smaller coils and DD coils are better in handling EMI. Try a small 6" MF CC, or better yet a 6" HF DD and/or 5x10" HF DD.

things I don't like is I have another house right across the street from this I have permission for, I am praying the interference is not over there too, But I am guessing it will be. Every house I have down in this area of town gives me fits! And this is the oldest area in my town, go figure! I tried a 6" coil at the last house with all the interference and it did not help much, when I turned up sensitivity enough to get any depth at all with the small coil, the x-70 went nuts again. I see no way to win..........

G4e,

Nice hunt, despite the trying conditions your persistance paid off .
Great indian and there's something about tokens ...I reckon they are cool.
If there is interferance and if you can overcome it maybe you will do really well
...perhaps no-one else has has hunted that area due to the interference ?

Great hunt, and great pictures. Looks like they really cleaned up good, too.

Ok, try the 5x10" HF DD there. Also experiment with the Ground Balance 'Beach' Tracking mode(umbrella icon) if that helps, then switch it off to pinpoint.

I heard some where before that I think it was Whites that had a coil that was designed to work under metal fences or under barbed wire fences. It may have been designed for Law Enforcement. The top of the coil was 'shielded' so that a metal object could not be detected on the top of it very well, only on the bottom of the coil. This may also be good to use in very high EMI interference areas.

Also for Minelab SD/GP(X) PI machines CoilTek makes many different sizes of Anti-Intereference(figure 8 winding) coils that are made for working under power lines, near other EMI sources, or on salt lakes. They have only about 5% less depth than a DD coil, but do not handle mineralization as good as DD coils. I know this does you absolutely no good for your X-70 but just some information for you of interest.

Just a thought, what kind of non-metallic EMI 'shielding' material could you permanently or temporarily install on the top and sides of your 6" or 5x10"(or 9" LF) coil that would stop alot of EMI from coming in from the top area?? Does anyone have any suggestions? Then closely scrub the ground with your coil when sweeping.

I'd be willing to loan you a HF coil for a spell. I got the 5x10 and the 6" both are DDs let me know. Serious.

That is a decent looking injun and I wish that 1917 was a DD.
