Shipwreck found

Larry (IL)

Well-known member
There seems to be no end to the goodies on the beach, just getting harder to find. I remember having a boat like this when I was only a tot. It had a motor and took two AA batteries, you set the rudder for a circle and hoped it came back to you. I'm guessing this one succumbed to rough waters, it was about 40 feet from shore.

Three more silvers and three more wheats but I am really hoping to find another gold there somewhere. It's pretty obvious that I am digging a lot of low conductors but no gold ring yet this year. (Found one there last year when the lake was lowered)

Congrats on the finds Larry. If you can you better hoist anchor and go back to the spot before Tuesday.

That is what I told Nancy earlier Robbie, we better get our hunting in this weekend. The gas meter dials start spinning a lot faster come Tuesday.......:ranting:

Thats a beauty of a boat and over all hunt! :clapping:

My Uncle told me a story once...His Grandfather, (My GG father) was a boatbuilder and tinker of all sorts...One winter, he built a scale model steam powered tugboat, about 3' long...made all the components himself...My Uncle was just a little kid, but he told me in the Spring, GGfather took him and the new boat he built out to PereMarquette beach on the shores of Lake Michigan at Muskegon to try it out...got it all fired up, everything seemed great, adjusted the rudder so it would make a circle, and it did! It was wonderful watching that little model Tug go out puffing away and come back!

Then, he said, my GGfather readjusted the rudder, fired up the boiler with a full load, and wanted to see it make a BIG circle, turned it loose, and thats the last time anybody saw that Tug as it merrily steamed off towards Milwaukee! I always wondered if some damn cheesehead got that Tug!...I can only imagine the look on my Ggpaps face! I'm sure I have had that same familial look a time or two when things dont go as planned..:sadwalk:
Mud.

Thanks for the Kudos and story Mud and thanks for joining in with us.

Nancy and I were starting to wonder if this forum was worth maintaining or posting to. For such a large club, we only have a few who post regularly and a few more who post occasionally yet we have a large readership........ go figure.

We enjoy reading about others finds and thought they might enjoy reading about ours too but I could be wrong with that assumption.....

Thanks for the story about your Great Grandfather. Oh can you imagine what a prize it would have been to have found that vessel. I hope it was treasured by some child that was in dire need of a good toy. Makes you wonder why things happen the way they do. :)

looks like your boat came in.
