Shipment To Refinery Heading Out Tomorrow

I talked to Midwest today and am ready to ship tomorrow. I have a total of 56 rings, gold and silver, several charms, and a little bit of scrap chain. This is basically the junk that nobody wanted...friends or family.

I'm keeping all the diamond rings, rings with stones, class rings, and nice chains that are left. The stuff I'm liquidating is all pretty much plain bands and junk silver rings. The total is 51.6dwt 14K, 12.2dwt 10K, and 7.7 ounces of silver. It totals a little over $1000 worth at current prices. I'm taking the silver out in 1 ounce silver bars and the gold in cash and will be buying a 2006 gold 1 ounce Buffalo coin with part of that and will also get that Diamond tester I wanted and didn't get yet. So in that way, my silver gets converted to SILVER, my gold to GOLD, and some of the rest is reinvested into the hobby.

I think from here on I will continue to keep or sell the NICE stuff and each year or two I will sell off the mundane stuff and probably buy gold with the proceeds.

Here's the pic of the stuff that's going...

Mike, can I get some info, on Midwest,ie: address ,how you ship and stuff like that.I noticed as i read farther ahead you gave me the answer already .Thanks, 20 plus years may as well keep some for myself.

Good question. I wasn't sure, so I went to www.usps.com and calculated it. Based on a 1 pound package, Priority Mail, with Delivery Confirmation and $1000 insurance (and that's what costs you) the total breaks out as shown here...$4.05 to mail it and $12.25 in "upgrades"

There is an 800 number on the page, or you can send them an email (scroll down the page for for "Contact Us"). The gent you want to talk to is Gary.

The thinking type of treasure hunter will "collect" what he personally likes or wants by selling off the scrap and unwanted items.
Is this some hobby, or what?!!!

nice to get some decent money , I bet it has you feeling pretty chipper .............good luck and I hope it works out well for ya .........

Yes sir..."chipper" indeed...that's me! It all adds up. All the clad, all the jewelry sold for closer to normal prices, all the bling the family gets to keep, and now this. The result is that I still have a nice collection of stuff as well as having the start of some cold hard "cash" reserve from it as well as having paid for all the machines I ever had a couple of times over AND having the killer hobby. Who could ask for more? :)

Well, this is the model I'm looking at. Many cheaper ones will tell a diamond from a CZ or glass fake but there aren't as many that will detect the moissanite simulated stones. Many will see them as real. This model will detect those.

The basic operation is based on the heat conductance of a real diamond vs the heat conductance of a simulated diamond like moiisanite, CZ, crystal, etc. The probe senses how fast the surface absorbs the heat and makes a judgement based on known values. That's my laymans understanding of it.

Actually, you sent me that before and that's where I'm going to get it from. The eBay link came up when I Googled it had a better pic and a little more info so I used it.

Will do. Im sure there will be a disparity between my rough estimates and what it comes out to. There may well be differences between what some of the gold is stamped as and what it actually comes out to. And on the silver, there were a few things stamped 925 that I wonder if they are all 925 or just part 925. Like a couple of the earrings, for example. We'll see.
