Shield Nickel

Took advantage of the cool, damp weather yesterday afternoon and visited the park I've been hunting lately... my limited hunt time yielded 5 wheats (1913 the oldest), 3 crusty indians (1885 the oldest) that I've got soaking in olive oil, and my first shield nickel of the year - an 1869! The nickel was a jumpy signal but there was enough there and the depth told me it was an old target - so I went for it - glad I did!

Very nice. I got my first shield nickel (1867) ever a few weeks ago with my CTX and it was in a beaten to death park at 2.5 inches deep right in the thick of where people hunt. I dug plenty of modern clad in the 6 inch range that day as well. Go figure. Congrats on the find and thanks for sharing. -Marc
