Went back to my honey hole for a few hours. I started pulling the usual old wheats and old nickels. I got a 12-12 12-13 dancing around at six inches. Dug my plug and out comes this funky looking thing. At first I thought it was a nickel that had been in the ground forever. Did the spit test ha we all done that before. Seen five cents with stars around it. Thinking not your average nickel today son. Got home washed it with soap and water this coin was nasty. Let it soak in olive oil for a few hours but still looked bad. With nothing to loose I broke out the sos pad and cleaned up pretty good. Took it to work and look at through a microscope. The best I can make out on the date is 1867 or 1868. Wish it were in better shape but I am happy. Next time around I may find something better. The oldest coin to date found with the Etrac.
