Shell ID?

Howdy--

I dug this shell today and I am curious as to what it is. It's about 7.25 inches long and approximately an inch and a quarter at its base. There is no visible primer. At the top of the brass I can read the following: M M M 11-0 LOT HMC L 16 *. The "HMC" is in a small rectangle. I've dug .50 machine gun rounds in the past and this is considerably larger. I placed a .22 LR cartridge beside it for comparison. Thanks for any help on this one. Best of luck and...

I'm guessing it is a 20x110 USN round. The case should measure 4.33 inches or 110mm.

This next picture shows the .50 BMG(12.7x99) next to a 20x110.

The next picture also shows the .50 BMG(12.7x99) next to a 20x110.

This SITE describes a lot of cartridges based on the .50 BMG and larger. The US made a variant of the .50 but slightly longer, the 12.7x120. If you could measure the case length and diameter of the bullet we could narrow it down more.

Thanks Aarong81. It is clearly a 20X110. Also, thanks for that website. There is some very interesting reading there. Best of luck and...

Thanks taz42o. It is the 20X110 Dummy Round! I got an 80's reading on my V3i and it pinpointed large and narrow. I thought that it would be a garden hose nozzle! You never know what you are going to dig up! Thanks again. Best of luck and ...
