Hello, Can anybody explain how to set up my detector for the initial start?. I did it according to the instructions without success. Thanks!

I posted this a few weeks back, hope it helps.

"I have had the SSII for a few years. I usually hunt in the Discrimination mode with the sensitivity at 12 O'clock and the discrimination at about 9-10 O'clock. I will adjust these settings based on conditions and what I am looking for, but that should get you started. When getting started I would do as the manual says and dig only clear repeatable targets that signal consistently in both directions while "xing" the target. It will save you a bit of frustration and help you master pinpointing. You can always go back for those iffy signals. I have found the target id to be pretty good and the Inconsistent signals are usually trash (not always...)."

I like to hunt in disc also , I turn the disc knob all the way down to left I just like to hear the tones . I turn the senstivity to 3 oclock . I get a little more depth that way . I have had mine for several years and have made some of my best finds with mine. sometimes I turn the disc knob to about 10 oclock postion also , if you turn it to high you will lose some nickels and alot of indians. I have seen alot of indians read as pull tabs on id.
