Sharp Shooter II

Gottago

New member
I'm still in the learning stages of my detector and I'm having trouble setting it up when I go. I've read the manual but still I get frustrated because I'm not sure if I did everything right. Can anyone tell me the best way to program it for hunting? I've had some luck but the others I go with beat the socks off of me with there finds. Thanks for anything you may have to offer me.

I have had the SSII for a few years. I usually hunt in the Discrimination mode with the sensitivity at 12 O'clock and the discrimination at about 9-10 O'clock. I will adjust these settings based on conditions and what I am looking for, but that should get you started. When getting started I would do as the manual says and dig only clear repeatable targets that signal consistently in both directions while "xing" the target. It will save you a bit of frustration and help you master pinpointing. You can always go back for those iffy signals. I have found the target id to be pretty good and the Inconsistent signals are usually trash (not always...).

Congrats on the SSII. My first BH detector was a SS. First thing I always say is make a test garden. That way you can practice testing in different modes, sens level, disc level, etc. Also find the level in disc mode that you loose nickles, then back off until you get nickels again. I would mark that spot either a little piece of electric tape, touch of white out. That way you know if you go past that mark you loose nickles. I agree with mlamp on everything that was said. The best way to learn your machine is to get out and have fun mding....
Again congrats, HHing...

Thanks for all the info. I had luck on some days and then others nothing. I will take your advise. I also think I had some off brand batteries giving me problems. Thanks and anymore advise is truly welcome.

You definitely get what you pay for with batteries...use only good alkalines, or good true 9V rechargeables (PowerEx)...

HH,

I used some bad batteries one time my detector was getting horrible depth.
